The answer to all our troubles!
I found it! There I was surfing around looking for a blog about Iceland spar (silfurberg) and I stumbled across a blog which says that because Iceland spar splits light into two rays (put a bit over a word and you see two words) it will also do this if you use a bit of calcite as a power crystal. It will double our work output!!!!! Isn't that just what we need? It also "gives you the energy to put your thoughts into action". So like I say, the answer to all our troubles and I suggest we hotfoot it down to Þjóðleikhúsið (there must be some extra bits of silfurberg lying around there somewhere) and pocket some calcite. Just think how much more we will get done? I might actually finish reading Kuhltau.......and perhaps we could use it to double the output of the power stations that we already have. Yes! The answer to the energy crisis is distribute calcite crystals to every country. I could get the Nobel Peace prize for this, if Al Gore can do it why not me?

Bonfire Night!

I want a bonfire! And fireworks! And bonfire toffee!
402 years ago some very bad men tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament, King James included. Guy Fawkes was left to light the fuse but was found and came to a sticky end. So it is traditional to make a "guy" out of old clothes stuffed with paper and straw. Then you stick the guy on top of the bonfire and watch him go up in smoke.
Bonfire night 1961 - I'm the cute little one.
And here is a link for virtual fireworks to gladden the hearts of the homesick. Click as fast as you can and have the sound up HIGH!

Raining in my heart
Well it is raining outside at least.
Had a multi-media style lecture this afternoon with live links to half the country. Fun to see that work out.
Not feeling terribly well so rang my personal chauffeur and got a lift home. Pilates again tonight and since I missed it twice last week (and let's remember I have paid for this) I am going to drag myself off in a bit.
One bit of great news today (even though none of my nearest family showed the slightest bit of interest) is that my second-cousin-once-removed has found a copy of my greatgrandfather's death certificate!!!!! So now we know when he died and one day I am sure we will find proof that he was born too :-) Not that he was a particularly nice man - we also need to find which prison he was sent to for beating-up my greatgrandmother :-( Can't chose your relatives can you?

Records, records, everywhere....
Armed with our limited knowledge about records management my trusty partner and I set out to look at a real records system in a real company!
We had the forsight to eat at Maður Lifandi first, just to make sure we had enough energy for the task. Then off we hopped to the company of our choice. We were given a wonderful guided tour by a delightful ex-MLIS student who wishes to remain anonymous. We saw the whole set up, including the shredded records in the rubbish bins.
Three hours later we collapsed in the nearby coffee shop and rewarded ourselves with coffee and cake - we deserved it.

First time for everything!
No escape I suppose. A project is a project and in this case a project is a blog site so here goes...
Welcome to my blog site.
Woke up this morning with a feeling of doom. Records management project to hand in followed by Internet class and lab. First snow of the winter is not helping the mood. Next it is Pilates for the first time in 10 days (too sick to go last week :-) ) which should leave me energised enough to dash home and cook dinner for my abandoned children.
